Minnesota Child Sexual Abuse Attomeys
If you were a victim of child sexual abuse, the time to act is now; the Minnesota attorneys at Meshbesher & Spence can help.
Survivors of childhood sexual abuse often experience a disturbing array of overwhelming emotions. Some of these include feelings of fear, guilt, and shame. Victims have often been threatened that harm will come to themselves or their loved ones, if they tell. They are sometimes bribed or manipulated into maintaining a silence, told that no one will believe them or made to believe they are to blame.
Every year there are more than 3 million reports of child abuse made involving more than 6 million children here in the U.S. Roughly half a million of these children have reported being sexually abused, but they are in minority. That’s because only an estimated 38% of child victims disclose the fact that they’ve been sexually abused — many never tell.
MINNESOTA’S CHILD VICTIMS ACT
Minnesota’s Child Victims Act, signed into law on May 24th, 2013, allows adult victims of childhood sexual abuse a three-year window in which they may bring claims for civil cases against those responsible for the abuse. This includes victims whose claims may have been previously barred by the prior statute of limitations.
But this window won’t last for long, just three short years and it will expire (May of 2016). If you’re an adult who experienced childhood sexual abuse and you have either not taken or been denied action prior, it’s important for you to contact the qualified attorneys at Meshbesher & Spence to allow adequate time to process your case.
