Barry Cadden, the director and co-founder of the Massachusetts facility, New England Compounding Center, has been subpoenaed to appear at state House and Senate hearings scheduled for November 14 , 2012. The hearings will investigate how New England Compounding Center’s tainted steroids may have caused over four hundred people to contract meningitis. CDC experts and FDA officials are also expected to testify.

According to the CDC, there are now 483 cases and 32 deaths with fungal infections linked to steroid injections.

The number of confirmed fungal meningitis cases in Minnesota is now 12. There have been no deaths in Minnesota.

Cases have occurred in 19 states including Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
