Two sought after fatal hit-and-run

Source: Star Tribune

One person was killed and another severely injured early this morning as their Geo Metro was ripped in half by a speeding car that Minneapolis police say was stolen. The two men in the car fled the scene on foot, and police have yet to find them.

The accident occurred about 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of E. 26th Street and Park Avenue S. Minneapolis police Lt. Lee Edwards told reporters at the scene that one person, a male, in the Geo was killed and the other person was in critical condition. The Geo was traveling north on Park Avenue when it was hit by the westbound car, an Infiniti.

Police said the car was reported stolen on Monday.

Video shot by broadcast media at the scene shows the GEO torn in half by the impact with the Infiniti. The police spokesman says one half of the GEO had separated from the other half by 30 feet.

Apparently the occupants of the Infiniti were not injured. KSTP-TV reports that police dogs were brought in to help police track down the two men, but the dogs soon lost a scent.
